WAYS TO ACCESS MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

Taking care of your mental health means making small, daily efforts to help you feel good. But it’s equally important to recognise when you might need a bit more support. If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or not quite yourself, it’s okay to reach out for help. Start by having a conversation with your doctor – they’ll work with you and connect you with the right mental health professionals. Seeking help is a positive step toward keeping yourself well and getting the care you need.

GP Referral:

Have a conversation with your GP about creating a Mental Health Care Plan, which allows you to access professional support tailored specifically to your needs (fees may apply). Your GP will guide you through the referral process and help connect you with an experienced mental health team.

Self Referral

You can reach out to us directly, a GP referral isn’t required. If you don’t meet the criteria for a funded service or would simply feel more comfortable coming to us yourself, we offer a fee-for-service option. Click on the Referral Form button, and our team will be in touch to assist you.

Workcover

RHG is an approved Workcover provider. Most Workcover referrals are received through a GP or via self-referral. If you are eligible for Workcover support, simply complete our Referral Form, and we’ll assist you through the process.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

We are available to contract to employers for Employee Assistance Programs.

MANAGING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

At Rural Health Group, we understand the unique challenges of living and working in rural areas, and we’re here to help you prioritise your mental health and wellbeing. Maintaining a healthy mind is just as important as physical health, and there are steps you can take to support your mental wellbeing.

Stay Connected

Isolation can be a significant factor in mental health issues. Make time to stay connected with friends, family, and your community. Even a quick chat with a neighbour or a regular phone call to a loved one can make a big difference.

Take Care of Your Body

Physical health and mental health are closely linked. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep can improve your mood and energy levels. Consider activities like walking, gardening, or joining a local sports team.

Manage Stress

Stress is a part of life, but managing it effectively can prevent it from overwhelming you. Techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and meditation can help you stay calm and focused. It’s also important to know your limits and avoid overcommitting yourself. Take time out for yourself and do activities that help you relax - reading, listening to a podcast, gardening etc. Even if it is just half and hour a day.

Seek Professional Support

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to ask for help. Talking to a healthcare professional, like a GP or a mental health clinician, can provide you with the support and resources you need. Rural Health Group offers access to mental health professionals who understand the unique pressures of rural life.

Find Joy in Small Moments

Focus on the things that bring you happiness and fulfillment, whether it’s a hobby, spending time outdoors, or simply taking a moment to enjoy a peaceful sunrise. Finding joy in everyday moments can boost your mental wellbeing.
